I SEE YOU

When the body needs
immediate care
it finds it

at the Intensive Care Unit.
Care comes without asking—

Vital signs are monitored,
a nurse looks after
pulse and blood pressure,

A volunteer offers a magazine
and a chaplain knocks on the door:
is everything okay?

Flowers arrive
with cards offering
best wishes,

An aid leaves water on the table.
What if everyone in the world,
would keep an eye

on one another’s vital signs?
Everyone would learn to see
You would see me

and I would see you
