KISS THE SUN
Anne Rice

Let me kiss the sun, for it means kingdom come
As trickery of black winged angels comes undone
And to embrace what lies behind crimson curtains
The immolation of loveless desolation for certain
Wait love, as I stand in my dusk and dawn, be my gun

Play me a delightful dirge of defeat, let fingers run
Across smooth white once living flesh as it does stun
To know such a relic as this can only offer you burden
    Let me kiss the sun

Are demons as I not children of the illuminated one?
A mockery of the power of the blood to be shunned?
Yes you may kiss me before departure of such earthen
Desires of which you know not disasters you’re flirtin’
To which if we cash in the chips there is no refund
    Let me kiss the sun
